Thanksgiving Centerpiece
By: HGTV.COM

Most of the materials for this centerpiece--and maybe even the plants--can be included on your grocery-store list.

You don't have to do any special planting or fuss with potting soil. The background of the centerpiece consists of plants still in their pots. Sheet moss provides the support for the fruits and vegetables and helps give background color.

A simple but elegant fruit-and-vegetable centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table begins with an assortment of ivies and begonias. This colorful focal point can be assembled in just minutes, all with materials that you can pick up at the grocery store and flower shop. Here's how to do it:

Line a large, low basket with plastic. Place potted ivy--here, we used three Algerian ivies--but you can use three of any similar-sized ivy. Add potted begonias in fall colors. The containers go directly into the basket; you don't have to repot. Tilt the containers a bit to improve the look of the arrangement.

Water the containered plants well.

In the spaces between the containers, pile sheet moss (available in flower shops). The moss will serve to cushion and display the fruits and vegetables you'll add.
Add colorful fruits and vegetables. Green and red apples and grapes, orange and yellow peppers, a squash or two all make good candidates. Cluster similar colors together to get the best look.

Caution: If the food is to be eaten, be sure it's thoroughly washed. Because produce is perishable, we suggest this arrangement be used for only one day.

Sprinkle assorted nuts--that are still in their shells--throughout the basket.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
