| 4-12-05 AAUW Presents Representative Valerie Hughley |
| “Sticks and stones may break your bones but words never will” is not necessarily true in today’s high schools. Words can hurt and gossip as a source of violence is being uncovered as the weapon of choice for teenage “Bullying Girls”.
Violence among teenage girls is growing and with it comes its own tortuous style as evidenced by arrest reports, school suspensions and stories in the news. Carolyn Hugley, Georgia House minority whip, has introduced an anti-bullying bill that will be introduced again in 2006. It requests school policies and a developed model for use in dealing with this increase in violent behavior among teenage girls. Representative Hugley will be speaking on “Bullying Girls” for the American Association of University Women. The meeting will be held at the old Flint Electric Building on Elberta road, April 12, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. AAUW promotes education and equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. Membership is open to all college graduates. Contact Varie Rustin at 478-922-6588 for further information. | |
