Cornbread To Headline Georgia Music Week

Alternative country band Cornbread is slated to headline the Georgia Music Hall of Fame's Jammin' in the Street free outdoor concert on Fri., Sept. 17, 2004. Led by Columbus, Ga.'s Keni Thomas, Cornbread is an energetic, hard-grooving mix of southern-fried country rock.

The band was seen and heard in several scenes of the 2002 major motion picture Sweet Home Alabama and was a "Best New Band" finalist in Atlanta's Creative Loafing. The group has sold more than 10,000 copies of their independent releases and frontman Thomas received the Jim Beam BEAM Emerging
Artist Grant.

Thomas is also known for his inspiring military story. A former Army Ranger and member of the elite Task Force Ranger assault group, Thomas fought in the Somalia battle recounted in the book and motion picture Black Hawk Down and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his involvement with the operation. His insight into the reality of special operations warfare has lead to numerous appearances on CNN, CBS, NBC Dateline and Fox News. He worked as a military advisor on the set of the motion picture We Were Soldiers and appeared on-screen as a squad leader next to Mel Gibson. Thomas also wrote the song, "Hero," as a tribute to one of his fallen comrades. The song is now used by the "Hero Fund," raising awareness for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides scholarships and educational grants for the children of special operations personnel killed in training or real world combat.

Opening for Cornbread will be the high-energy Latin beats of MaCuba, a 12-piece Atlanta "orquesta." Jammin' in the Street closes out a week of free concerts at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. It takes place on the eve of the 26th Annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony. This year's inductees include Rolling Stone keyboardist Chuck Leavell, opera singer Mattiwilda Dobbs, jazz legend Mary Lou Williams and Jordainaires quartet
member Hugh Jarrett.

Georgia Music Week's FREE Jammin' in the Street outdoor concert starts at 8
p.m. in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame parking lot, downtown Macon.

Families, pets and lawn chairs are welcome (no coolers please). Be there
early to claim your spot on the dance floor.
